Samsung TV IPTV Setup Guide
Watch IPTV straight from your Samsung smart TV, with no stick or box plugged in. This guide explains how Samsung IPTV apps really work, which one to choose, and every step from the Apps screen to your first channel.
Find Out Which Year Your Samsung TV Is From
IPTV apps are available for Samsung TVs from 2017 onwards. Older sets have a much smaller app store, so it's worth checking before you start.
Go to Settings → Support → About This TV and look at the model code. The letter that marks the year usually sits right after the screen size (for example UE55TU7100) or at the end of QLED and Neo QLED names (for example QE65QN90A).
| Year letter | Model year | IPTV apps? |
|---|---|---|
| F | 2025 | Yes |
| D | 2024 | Yes |
| C | 2023 | Yes |
| B | 2022 | Yes |
| A | 2021 | Yes |
| T | 2020 | Yes |
| R / N / M | 2019 / 2018 / 2017 | Yes, with fewer app choices |
| K or older | 2016 and earlier | Limited |
TV from 2016 or earlier? You'll get a smoother experience by plugging a streaming stick into a spare HDMI port. Our Firestick IPTV setup guide walks you through it.
How IPTV Apps Work on a Samsung TV
This part surprises most people, and once it clicks, the setup makes sense.
On a Firestick you type your login straight into the app. Most Samsung IPTV apps work differently. Because typing long addresses with a TV remote is painful, the app shows you a MAC address (a unique ID for that app on your TV) and asks you to add your playlist on its own website, using your phone or laptop. The website then sends the playlist to your TV.
Shows your MAC address and device key
You enter the MAC and paste your playlist
Restart the app and your channels appear
Two more things worth knowing. First, these apps are made by independent developers, not by Samsung or by us. Most give you a free period, then ask for a small one-time or yearly activation fee that goes to the app maker. Second, the app and your IPTV subscription are separate: the app is the player, and the service provides the channels.
Best IPTV Apps for Samsung Smart TVs
App availability depends on your country and TV model, so open the Samsung app store and see which of these you can find.
IBO Player Our pick
Clean layout, quick to load, with live TV, movies, series and a TV guide. Accepts both M3U links and Xtream Codes logins on its website.
SET IPTV
A long-running, reliable option with a simple channel list. Uses an M3U link. A good backup if IBO Player isn't in your store.
Can't find either? Message us your TV's model code and we'll suggest an app that's available for it.
Install the IPTV App From Samsung Apps
- Press the Home button on your Samsung remote.
- Scroll left to Apps and select it.
- Choose the search icon (the magnifying glass in the top corner) and type the app's name, for example IBO Player.
- Open the app's page and select Install. Then choose Add to Home so it sits on your home bar.
Note Your MAC Address and Device Key
- Open the app. On first launch it shows a screen with your MAC address and a device key, plus the address of the app's website.
- Take a photo of this screen with your phone. It's quicker than writing it down and avoids mixing up similar characters like 0 and O.
- Leave the app open on the TV while you do the next step.
Can't see the MAC later? It's usually under the app's Settings or Account section.
Add Your Playlist on the App's Website
- On your phone or laptop, open the website shown on the TV. Type the address yourself rather than searching for it, so you land on the official site.
- Find the login or Manage playlist section and enter your MAC address and device key.
- Choose Add playlist. Give it a name, then either paste your M3U link or fill in the Xtream fields (server URL, username, password).
- Save. Some sites ask you to tick a captcha first. That's normal.
No login details yet? Get a free 24-hour IPTV trial and use it for this step. If you're unsure whether to paste the M3U link or use the Xtream fields, pick Xtream when it's offered, since it loads faster.
Restart the App and Start Watching
- On the TV, close the app completely: press and hold Back, or go Home and reopen it.
- Open the app again. Your playlist appears by the name you gave it. Select it.
- The first load takes a minute or two while channels, movies and the TV guide download.
- Pick Live TV, choose a category, and you're watching.
Samsung Settings That Improve IPTV
A few TV settings make a noticeable difference to live TV and sport. Menu names can vary slightly by model year.
Use the Ethernet port
Almost every Samsung smart TV has a network socket on the back. A cable gives a steadier picture than Wi-Fi, especially for live football. Set it under Settings › General › Network.
Check Picture Clarity for sport
Under Settings › Picture › Expert Settings › Picture Clarity, strong motion smoothing can make fast action look odd. Try Auto or a lower setting.
Type with your phone
The free SmartThings app can act as a remote with an on-screen keyboard, which is handy for searching channels or entering details.
Keep the TV updated
Go to Settings › Support › Software Update and turn on Auto Update. App problems are often fixed by a TV firmware update.
Keep IPTV Running Smoothly on Your Samsung TV
- Do a proper restart now and then. Pressing Power only puts the TV in standby. Hold the Power button on the remote until the Samsung logo appears to fully restart it.
- Clear the app's cache. On 2020 and later models: Settings › Support › Device Care › Manage Storage, pick the app, then View Details › Clear Cache.
- Don't reinstall the app without a reason. Some apps generate a new MAC address on reinstall, which means re-adding your playlist on the website.
- Hide categories you don't watch. Most apps let you lock or hide groups, which makes the channel list load faster.
Samsung TV IPTV Problems and Fixes
| What you see | Most likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist doesn't appear on the TV | The app hasn't refreshed since you saved it | Close the app fully, reopen it, or do a full restart of the TV |
| "Invalid MAC" on the website | A mistyped character | Check against the photo you took; 0 and O, 1 and I are easy to mix up |
| "Trial expired" or "Activate" message | The app's own free period has ended | Activate the app on its website. This is the app's fee, separate from your IPTV service |
| App isn't in the store | Not offered for your region or model year | Try the alternative app, or use a Firestick |
| Channels buffer on Wi-Fi | Weak signal behind the TV | Switch to an Ethernet cable or move the router closer |
| Playlist vanished after an update | The app was reinstalled with a new MAC | Note the new MAC and add the playlist again on the website |

Samsung TV IPTV: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I watch IPTV on a Samsung TV without a Firestick?
Yes. On Samsung TVs from 2017 onwards you can install an IPTV player directly from the Samsung app store and watch without any extra device.
Why does the app ask me to pay?
Samsung IPTV players are made by independent developers who charge a small activation fee after a free period. That payment goes to the app maker and is separate from your IPTV subscription.
Is it better to use the TV app or a Firestick?
On a recent Samsung TV, the built-in app is simpler and needs no extra device. A Firestick can be faster on older or entry-level TVs and offers more app choices, such as TiviMate.
Can I use one playlist on my Samsung TV and my phone?
Yes, you can add the same login to both. How many can stream at once depends on your plan.
What is the MAC address in an IPTV app?
It's an ID the app uses to recognise your TV. You enter it on the app's website so the site knows which TV to send your playlist to. It isn't your login and doesn't give anyone access to your TV.
Do these steps also work on an LG TV?
The idea is the same, and many of the same apps are available, but LG's menus and store are different. Follow our LG TV IPTV setup guide for the exact steps.
