LG TV IPTV Setup Guide
Set up IPTV on an LG smart TV running webOS, using nothing but the TV, its Magic Remote and your phone. Every step is shown with an animated illustration, so you can see exactly where to point and click.
Check Your LG TV's webOS Version
LG smart TVs run webOS. The newer the version, the more IPTV apps you'll find in the store.
On some models the path is Settings › All Settings › Support › TV Information. Look for the line that says webOS TV version.

Using the LG Magic Remote
Most LG smart TVs come with a Magic Remote, which works like a mouse. Once you get used to it, setup is quicker than with arrow buttons.
- PointerGive the remote a little shake and a cursor appears on screen. Point it at what you want.
- Scroll wheel (OK)Press it to click, roll it to scroll through long channel lists.
- HomeOpens the app bar along the bottom of the screen.
- BackGoes back one screen. Hold it to leave an app.
- MicrophoneHold and say an app's name to search for it.
No Magic Remote? A standard LG remote works too: use the arrow keys and OK instead of pointing.
Which IPTV App to Use on an LG TV
LG doesn't make its own IPTV player, so you'll use an app from an independent developer. These two are widely available in the LG store:

Lightweight, which helps on older or entry-level LG sets with less memory. Works with an M3U link.
Both use the same MAC address system: the app shows an ID on screen, and you add your playlist on the app's website from your phone. If you've set this up before on another brand, it's the same idea as in our Samsung TV IPTV guide, just with LG's menus. Expect to pay the developer a modest one-off or annual unlock once the app's trial runs out. It's a payment for the player itself and has nothing to do with your IPTV plan.
Install the App From the LG Store
- Press Home on the Magic Remote. The app bar slides up from the bottom.
- Open Apps. On older models this is called LG Content Store.
- Point at the search icon in the top corner and type the app name, or hold the mic button and say it.
- Open the app's page and click Install. It appears at the end of your app bar when it's done.
Open the App and Photograph the Activation Screen
- Click the new app in your app bar to open it.
- The first screen lists a MAC address, a device key and the app's website address.
- Snap a photo of the whole screen with your phone. You'll copy from that photo in the next step.
Why a photo? MAC addresses mix numbers and letters, and a single wrong character stops the playlist from reaching your TV. Reading from a zoomed-in photo removes the guesswork.
Link Your Playlist From Your Phone
- On your phone, type the website address from your photo into the browser. Typing it yourself keeps you on the official site.
- Sign in with the MAC address and device key.
- Choose to add a playlist. Name it, then either pick Xtream and enter the three details you were sent, or drop in your M3U link instead.
- Press Save and wait for the confirmation message.

Reload the App on Your LG
- Hold Back to close the app, then open it again from the app bar.
- Your playlist is now listed. Click it, and give it a minute to fetch channels and the programme guide.
- Roll the scroll wheel to move through categories and click a channel to start watching.
Still showing the activation screen? Switch the TV off at the wall for 30 seconds and try again. LG keeps apps in memory while in standby, so a full power cycle forces a fresh load.
LG TV Settings That Make IPTV Better
Menu names shift a little between webOS versions, but you'll find these on most models.
Turn TruMotion down for sport
TruMotion is LG's motion smoothing. If football looks unnaturally smooth or shows artefacts around the ball, lower it under Picture › Advanced Settings › Picture Options.
Consider turning off Quick Start+
It makes the TV wake faster, but keeps apps half-asleep in memory. Turning it off means every power-on starts fresh, which can stop apps misbehaving.
Type with the LG ThinQ app
LG's free ThinQ app works as a remote with a phone keyboard, handy for searching channels or film titles.
Wire it if you can
LG TVs have an Ethernet socket on the back. A cable to your router gives the steadiest picture for live channels.

Does my LG TV support IPTV?
Most LG smart TVs from about 2018 onwards can install an IPTV player from the LG store. Check your webOS version under About This TV; if it's 4.0 or higher, you're set.
Do I need the Magic Remote?
No, but it makes setup quicker. A standard LG remote's arrow keys and OK button do the same job, just a little slower.
Why do I have to use a website to add my playlist?
LG IPTV players link your playlist to the TV through the app maker's website, using the MAC address shown on screen. It saves you typing long addresses with a remote.
Will an LG software update remove my IPTV app?
Normally not. Updates keep your installed apps. If an app ever disappears, reinstall it from the store and re-link your playlist if the MAC address has changed.
Is the built-in app as good as a streaming stick?
On a recent LG, yes, for most people. On older or budget models with less memory, a Firestick or Android TV box usually switches channels faster.
Can I watch on my LG and my phone with the same login?
