How IPTV Works on Apple Devices

Apple only allows apps from its own App Store, which keeps things simple: you install a player like any other app, then add your login inside it.

📱

One app, every screen

Most good players run on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and some can sync your playlist between them through your Apple ID.

💳

App fees are separate

Many iOS players are free to try and unlock extras with an in-app purchase. That payment goes to Apple and the developer, not to your IPTV provider.

🔑

Have your login ready

Either a server address with a username and password, or a single M3U link. Don't have one? Start with a free 24-hour test line.

  1. Open the App Store and tap Search.
  2. Type the app's name, for example IPTVX.

Add Your Playlist in the App

  1. Tap Add playlist (or the + icon).
  2. Choose Xtream Codes if it's listed. It gives you a proper TV guide and keeps films and series tidy.
  3. Copy each detail from your welcome email or message and paste it in: server URL, username, password. Long-press a field and tap Paste.
  4. Tap Save or Add. The channel list appears after a short load.

Using the same app on Apple TV later? Some players, IPTVX among them, can sync playlists between devices signed in to the same Apple ID. Add it once on your iPhone and it may already be waiting on the TV.

  • Rotate for full screenTurn off Portrait Orientation Lock in Control Centre so videos fill the screen when you rotate the phone.

Install the App on Apple TV

  1. On the Apple TV home screen, open the App Store.
  2. Choose Search and enter the player's name. Hold the microphone button on the Siri Remote and say it if that's easier.
  3. Select Get, and the app appears on your home screen.

Already bought it on iPhone? Many apps are "universal", so a purchase on iPhone also unlocks the Apple TV version when you use the same Apple ID.

Enter Your Login Without Typing on the TV

Typing a server address letter by letter with the Siri Remote is slow. Use your iPhone instead:

  1. In the player on Apple TV, choose to add a playlist and select the first text field.
  2. Your iPhone shows an Apple TV Keyboard notification. Tap it.
  3. Paste the detail on your iPhone and it appears on the TV. Repeat for each field.
  4. Save, and wait for the channels and guide to load.

No notification? Open Control Centre on your iPhone, tap the Apple TV Remote, and use the keyboard from there. Your iPhone and Apple TV need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Apple TV Settings for a Better Live TV Picture

Turn on Match Frame Rate

Settings › Video and Audio › Match Content. With Match Frame Rate on, sport broadcast at 50 frames per second plays without the slight judder you'd otherwise see.

Consider Match Dynamic Range

In the same menu. It keeps standard channels from being shown in an over-processed HDR mode on HDR-capable TVs.

Use Ethernet if your model has it

The higher-storage Apple TV 4K models have an Ethernet port. Wi-Fi-only models work best with the router in the same room.

Keep tvOS up to date

Settings › System › Software Updates, with Automatically Update turned on, so your player always gets the latest fixes.

FAQ

iPhone & Apple TV IPTV: FAQs

Do I need to jailbreak my iPhone for IPTV?

No. IPTV players are ordinary App Store apps. You install one, add your login, and watch, with no changes to your device.

Can I watch on iPhone and Apple TV with one login?

Yes, you can add the same details on both. Your plan determines how many devices can stream at the same moment.

Does IPTV work on a Mac?

Yes. Some players, including IPTVX, have a Mac version too. Our Windows & Mac IPTV guide covers desktop setup step by step.

Can I cast IPTV from my iPhone to my TV?

Usually, yes, with AirPlay to an Apple TV or an AirPlay-compatible smart TV. For everyday viewing, installing a player directly on the TV is more reliable; see our Samsung and LG guides.

Which Apple TV is best for IPTV?

Any Apple TV 4K handles it comfortably. If you can, choose a model with an Ethernet port for the steadiest live picture.

Will my playlist disappear after an iOS update?

No. Updates keep your apps and their saved playlists. If an app ever misbehaves after an update, update the app itself from the App Store.

Try It on Your iPhone or Apple TV

Get a test line in a minute, paste it into your player, and see how it plays on your Apple devices for 24 hours.
